Westmont - Arena Fundraising Program
Appearance and Uniform Standards- [Return]
BLACK PANTS, SHOES and SOCKS ARE MANDATORY!
Do not wear jeans, corduroy, sweats, stretch pants, leggings, cargo pants, camouflage or
shorts, as they are NOT ALLOWED. Any pants, shoes or socks that are not all black are unacceptable.
Note: If your pants fail to meet the Food Service Provider standard, there are a limited supply of pants in the locker area.
Shoes must be closed toed. Sports shoes and tennis shoes are acceptable only if they are
completely black! Please no sandals, no open toes.
It is extremely important that all members of your organization are appropriately dressed before entering
the building.
Uniform shirts, caps and nametags will be provided by Food Service Provider. The Group Coordinator will be accountable
for signing out all shirts, caps and nametags insuring all members are meeting the Food Service Provider and Arena
uniform policy. At the end of your organization’s shift all uniforms will be turned into the Uniform
Room. If uniforms are not returned, Food Service Provider will deduct the amount from your last pay out.
Personal Appearance
Personal appearance is a very important aspect of our business. Well-dressed and well-groomed
volunteers stimulate positive responses from guests and leave a lasting impression with them. Avoid sitting or
fraternizing with other volunteers or guests while working, or in view of guests. Be conscious of your posture
and body language at all times. Look approachable and ready to serve. Avoid sitting or leaning on tables,
counters, or other objects, and avoid standing with your hands in your pockets. Maintain the highest standards of
personal appearance and posture.
You are responsible for the appearance of your uniform. Your uniform must fit properly. An impressive Guest Services
Team is uniform in appearance.
Remain in full uniform when walking in public areas, including walking to and from your area of work
and including breaks. Never remove or loosen your tie, unbutton your shirt, remove your cap, etc. until you are in
the Employee Lounge.
Adopt good hygiene practices. Wash your hands before beginning work, after each time you eat, after going to the
restroom, after touching your face, mouth or hair or any other time anything may have contaminated your hands.
Wash your hands with warm water and soap, lather for 20 seconds and rinse thoroughly as needed. Use and change
your gloves often to prevent contamination.

TATTOOS- (All)
- Visible tattoos are unacceptable. Ask for a long sleve shirt when you volunteer.

NAMETAGS- (All)
- Wear your nametag proudly in an upright, readable position on the left side above your heart.
- Always wear your nametag on your outermost garment, in most cases this will be your apron.

PINS- (All)
- The only acceptable pins or decorations on uniforms
are nametags. Wear themed pins the Arena issues as part of the uniform for a particular event
or series of events for specified events only. Pins charitable organizations issue are unacceptable on
the uniform, nor are lanyards.

SUNGLASSES- (All)
- Do not wear sunglasses in the Arena. Do not wear sunglasses at night or in dark areas.
- Avoid wearing sunglasses outside the Arena if possible. As a general rule, wear sunglasses only
where a glare would prevent you from doing your job safely or efficiently (e.g., an employee’s assignment
requires them to look directly into the sun).
Glasses with silver-coated or other reflective lenses or any lenses that prevent a guest from seeing your eyes
are unacceptable. We do not allow sunglasses simply because they are prescription. Sunglasses, when worn, must
be conservative and must not detract from the uniform.

Grooming Standards For Men
HAIR
- Neatly comb and keep your hair in an easily manageable style.
- Extremes such as shaving the head/eyebrows or frosting/streaking hair are unacceptable. If hair
is dyed, it must be all one natural color.
- Hair must not touch the back of the collar nor may the length on the sides be longer than covering
the upper half of the ear. No ponytails.
- "Natural" or "Afro" hairstyles are acceptable if neatly packed and shaped.
- Wigs and hairpieces are unacceptable except for medical cosmetic purposes. You must provide medical verification
from a doctor before you may wear a wig or hairpiece.
- For food and beverage Volunteers, hair should not interfere with food preparation and service. Hair should be
pulled back from the face and should not dangle over food prep areas. As prescribed for your service group, wear
uniform caps or visors.
- No sideburn may extend past the bottom of the ear.

MUSTACHES and BEARDS
Volunteers may have mustaches and beards, but only if they meet the following standards:
- Mustaches — must not exceed past the corner of the mouth and must be neatly trimmed.
- Beards — must be full and neatly trimmed and cannot be in the early stage of growth.
- Fu Manchu’s and goatees are unacceptable.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
- The close contact you have with guests requires your regular use of a deodorant/ antiperspirant at all times.
- We discourage the use of cologne.
- Keep your fingernails clean and of moderate length.
- Wash your hands before beginning work, after each time you eat, after going to the restroom, after
touching your face, mouth or hair or any other time anything may have contaminated your hands. For food and beverage
Volunteers, wash your hands anytime you touch your face, hair, eyes, mouth or any other time anything may have contaminated
your hands.

JEWELRY
- Small (class size) rings, wedding bands and dress wristwatches are acceptable.
You may wear one ring per hand.
- Necklaces, bracelets on the wrist or ankle, and earrings or other body piercing rings or studs of
any sort are unacceptable.

SHOES and SOCKS
- During work, wear shoes appropriate for the corresponding uniform.
- Athletic shoes and other casual shoes are acceptable for Food Service Provider.
- Shoes must be solid black, polished, and in good repair at all times.
The ties/laces and eyelets must be black; no logos or zebra stripes allowed.
- Shoes should be comfortable and supportive for standing and walking for hours.
We suggest, as a safety precaution, wearing slip resistant shoes.
- Arena Management maintains a shoe program where Volunteers can purchase
appropriate black shoes. See the Uniform Room Attendant for details and cost.
- Wear black socks.

SHIRTS and TIES
UNDERGARMENTS
- If you wear an undershirt under your uniform shirt,
it must be plain white without printed designs and must have a conventional crew collar. Undershirt
sleeves should never show past the sleeve of your uniform shirt. If the uniform shirt is unbuttoned
at the top (e.g., Concessions), we prefer a V-neck undershirt. Mock turtlenecks, turtlenecks, sweatshirts
and other garments are unacceptable.

GROOMING STANDARDS FOR WOMEN:
HAIR

longer than shoulder length.

shaped. If hair is teased, keep it to a minimum and tease only for body and shape.
- Wigs and hairpieces are unacceptable except for medical cosmetic purposes. You must provide
medical verification from a doctor before you may wear a wig or hairpiece.
- For food and beverage Volunteers, hair that is long should be tied back so it does not interfere
with food preparations and service. Hair should be pulled back from the face and should not dangle over food prep
areas. As prescribed for your service group, wear uniform caps or visors.
- You may wear a plain barrette, comb or headband in gold, silver or tortoise shell without
ornamentation of any kind. Wear no more than two barrettes or combs. No hair ribbons, leather and plastic stick
pin barrettes and knitted chignon (bun) holders.

SHIRTS and TIES
- Neatly tuck your shirt so it stays tucked into your pants at all times.
- Volunteers wearing dress shirts and ties must button all shirt buttons. Tie your tie so
that the knot covers the top button of the dress shirt and the end of the tie touches the top of the belt.
- Tie tacks and clips are unacceptable except for servers and bussers.
