A Tiny Tiger

Raggedy, scroungy, half-starved
you were hardly recognizable.
A sorry excuse,for a feline.
You knew, I didn't want you
loitering on my door-step.
Everytime I came out,
you would weave
between my ankles.
Daring me, NOT to like you
oh, I tried--
I really did.
But you wove your way,
right into my heart.
I loved you despite
my own objections.
I loved your tenacity,and
ferocious purring capacity.
Many times, I would
shoo you from clothes baskets.
Threatening to "take you for a ride", or
"Drop-kick you into the next millenium".
But you always knew
that I loved you.
You always forgave me
With a nudge of your head
against my cheek.
And now, I'll never
scratch your favorite itch, just so.
Or chase you
out of the plants,
in the window.
Or snuggle with you
on the loveseat
after the kids go to bed.
Or listen to you purr
so comforting.

I'll miss you my friend...
