Letter from Herm to Grace Nov. 11, 1974

Dear Grace,

Yesterday I received your first letter. It was good to hear from you about your day to day activities.
Do give Mollie my best regards. What is the matter with Myron? Let me have details. Last week I phoned Fritz who told me he had spoken to Myron the night before and he said nothing about Myron's not being well
Fritz attended a Jewish meeting in Brussels Tuesday and planned to jump over to Israel for a few days in regard to government-Jewish Agency matters or to proceed directly to USA + Argentina. I shall probably hear from him soonest Please let me know immediately Hilde-Ernst's Jerusalem address. I might want to write her in regard to the graves of our forefathers
which I am investigating at Fritz's suggestion
The few Jews I have met here seem not to have it too easy socially. I mean the Israelis, of the others I met only one, the head (paid employee) of the Kehilla. The Israeli top men of Zim, of fruit carrier (Meridor-Brenner) a Mr. Weiss, son of Beresh Weiss, an old friend of mine of Mizrachi-government time are all satisfactorily employed but have no social contact with other Jews here nor much with goyim.
There is one Ex-German Israeli Jew here employed in the senate of the City of Hamburg in the Press Department. He married a gentile who had become Jewish before he knew her, first by a reform rabbi and then again by an orthodox rabbi. They had lived in Israel when she became very sick and they had to return to Hamburg.
My work meeting with Max Planck have been completed. They are now investigating to what extent they can include a study by Bar Ilan on the present private status law in Israel which, as you know, are based on "Mishpat Ivri". The chief editor (a Japanese) of this part of the encyclopedia lives in England and they first have to take it up with him-- Next week I shall learn something about German law on which the whole German investments in Israel are based. In particular, the shipping-investment laws for the under developed countries.
I am seeing some shows, mainly Schiller, Goethe, Brecht and Shakespeare-- In regard to the devaluation - Is there anything you or the kids want me to take along from Germany which is permitted to be imported. I have not the details of the new regulations.
Today I finally received Myron's funds and sent Julie telegraphically DM 1300 about 3000 new rate, which he should get on Sunday. On Dec 1 he'll collect for me an additional IL 7500 from Avnal; even without the Supreme Court Avnal decision, which I am looking anxiously forward to.

Shabbat Shalom love, Herm
