This piece was the first one I stitched using variegated threads (Caron Watercolors series). The middle I-bar shows one style of stitching, while everything else was done with another style. The first style is the traditional cross stitch method: Do all the half stitches first, then the full stitches. As you can see, the colors are less blended than in the other I-bars or the two knots. The second style, which the rest of the piece was done in, calls for stitching each X individually. While rather time-consuming, and requiring frequent checking of the chart, it does lead to more gradual colors.
There are only two "colors" of thread in this piece. One is the blue, which is a standard DMC color. The other is Caron Wildflowers "Kelp", which varies from yellow to brown to blue-gray. I was careful to match the colors within the knots as best I could.
