You or me?
A questioning poem
By Chris Peterson

Look out! Watch out! I'm coming in fast
Oh no, too late, you're in my past
Am I in front, or you in back?
An answer to this question I lack.

Am I tall or are you short
Does the port meet the ship or the ship meet the port
Does the sea meet the shore or the shore meet the sea
Asking you, cause it beats me

Does the sun set or the land rise
Are you a wolf in a human guise?
How would I know you tell the truth
Are you the ghost of Elvis or Babe Ruth?

Questions? How many can there be
I mean, without questioning recklessly
Like, why are Englishmen obsessed with tea
Why does asparagus make bright yellow pee?

Are the Australians' insane or is it we
Who are really throwing "wobblies"
Is Eminem offensive or Kathie Lee
As annoying as she is on T.V.?

I don't want to overwonder these things
But why don't elephants have wings?
Was that fish as big as we said we caught
Was our first kiss really that hot?

All fisherman are liars but you and me
And I doubt you, unsure again, you see
Is the Mafia bad or capitalism the crook
With Bill Gates "get rich tips" in every book

Are duck billed platypusses as insane as they seem
Was Albert Einstein really that keen?
Was our 1st Algebra teacher really that mean?
Are they rebellious adults or rebellious teens?

Is that really Ben Stein's money
Or taxpayers (now wouldn't that be funny)
Do glasses really make you look that dorky
Was our kindergarten bus driver as fat as Porky?

Charles Dickens don't make much sense
(What the hell is a "tuppence")
Was he as much of a genius as they say
Was "Sunshine" in "Remember the Titans" really gay?

Was James Bond really that cool
Is George W. Bush that much of a fool
This poem is going nowhere fast
I hope it gave all of you a laugh

So many more questions I'd like to ask
If only I had enough time for the task
Chicken or the egg? Bird or the bee?
A simple "I don't know" would be good enough for thee

But no not for me, no I'm hard to please
Why do young ones have scabby knees?
This is getting out of control, this knowledge abyss
Last question: Why are you listening to this?
You or Me?
Here is anothe poem that I wrote as an encore to "The Silver Cow". Question's everything we know in a rather humorous way. (Any resemblence of names of people or things you see in this poem are, as in any of my poems, ENTIRELY COINCIDENTAL...maybe)
