Advice from Retired Techie Keith :

1.Not Cleaning Hard Drives regularly at least once/mth mild useage.Once/week heavy useage. Gamers advised every 48 Hrs.Cleanup mess .(Scandisk/Defrag or Norton DiskDoctor/Speed Disk are superior and faster)
it allways suprising that Windows\Temp folders are not cleaned out weekly

2.Not using SystemMechanic to remove Temporary files,old files,GID files etc..so PC is full of Garbage.

3.Not using My Vital Agent freeware or Modem Monitor or similar program to analyse Internet connection, connect &Port Speed.Most problems are defective modem at Server,So disconnect,& reconnect watch speed difference..typically from 33600 too 50,000 with good Modem.

4.Phone Line NOT 56K compatible,Run 3com LineTest White for printing

5.Insufficient RAM.64MB is minimum for windows98,Optimum is 96MB,BEST 128MB RAM total.Swap File useage decreases with more RAM & Speed of PC increases. Also programs like WinRamTurboFree Optimise RAM after closing programs to cleanup mess left..So Office User that is opening & closing programs all day long,could use Optimiser to keep speedup all day long.
