My Poetry Project

There are a lot of different definitions for a poem. I think the meaning of a poem is to express the way some one feels about something or some one. Poems express hate, love, joy, sadness, etc. They dont have to rhyme, just as long as the reader understands what your saying. I think the purpose is to make the reader feel what you feeling. They could be written short or long. It can be for kids, teens, or adults. There is no real definition for a poem. A poem means a different thing to everybody and some people might not care anything about poems. That is my definition and my opinion

Persistance Of Memory

There is beach
On one side of the sand it is gold like honey
On the other side it is as dark as the bottom of the ocean
There is also a sea
It's as blue as the daylight sky?
On this beach there are three odd things
The first is a desk
It's brown like wet wood
And smooth like a baby's bottom
Sticking out of the desk is a branch
The second is an animal that is not unreconizable
It's laying in the sand with no life or soul in it
The last and final thing are clocks
They hang around like clothing
These clocks are trying to say something
It's trying to say "have the persistance of memory"
Time may go by, but have persistance of memory
Memory can either make you happy, sad, or mad
So always have persistance of memory
Persistance of Memory

"Sosa Blasts 400th Homer, But Cubs fall," New York Daily News (May 17, 2001)

Sammy Sosa hits his 400th homer and the Chicago Cubs still lose. This happend in Chicago stadium on May 16, 2001. Sammy said "my wife is her and my kid and they brought me good luck," I guess that motivated him to hit the home runs and he also tried to bring his team back in the game. Sammy did this by hitting the ball over the wall. The Cubs need some one else to help them out and maybe they could win more games.

Victory And Defeat

There is a baseball field
Were a game is going on
And the grass is as green as the forest
And the dirt is as brown as sand
Sammy hits his 400th homerun
And everybody was stunned
The ball was flying through the air
As the crowd stood up to stare
As the white ball
Flew over the wall
Then the crowd went wild
Sammy and his family made a smile
The smile soon turned into a frown
As the other team takes the crown
He needs someone else to score
Because he can't do it by himself no more
So you see he has both victory and defeat
He has the joy of hitting homeruns
But the sadness of losing games
No matter what he will continue to play the game of baseball

Candles That Burn

Candles, hot and bright
Like a burning flame
Straight like a stick
Being thrown for a dog to fetch as a game

Bright like the sun
Lighting up a dark room
As we lie in our beds
Which could use a sweep from a broom
Rough like old cabin wood
Giving us splinters
Tall like the trees
That provide cool breeze cause it's not winter
Hot like the fire that provides warmth at night/br> When we had no light
Shining orange and bright
Which is a beautiful sight
But soon the flame will go out
Your eyes will close
And soon you'll tell everyone at home what camp was about

Panther

When the sun rises at 6 o'clock
And all the neat curtains are drawn with care
The big black cat with bright green eyes
Is suddenly purring there
At first he pretends, having nothing to do
As the curtains open
Light enters his eyes
And his independent casual glance
Becomes a stiff hard gaze
The teenagers awaken and laugh
Running out without a care
The cat has grown, big and strong with desire
To become like these boys
Which each day he admires
His world is an infinte square blue
With a smell of masculine cologne
The boys are back and their friends to
All of a sudden no more silence
His rest is disturbed
Yet he doesn't mind, it's better than loneliness
