Publications H. Mukhaiber and Dr.J.T.Turner (2001) "A Model Study of Air Circulation Patterns in an Operating Theatre", The Ninth Internal Conference on Laser Anemometry and Applications (EALA), Limerick, Ireland

The principle aim is to develop a detailed understanding of the characteristics of the three-dimesional flow patterns in an operating room, noting to the need for the so-called "laminar down flow" circulation patterns to satisfy several important but sometimes conflecting criteria.

A scale-down model of a typical operating theatre have been constructed and experiments performed to investigate the flow patterns using both water and air. Flow visualisation (by laser sheet and tracers) and PIV are being used to obtain qualitative and quantitative informations under both isothermal and buoyancy driven conditions.
