Birth of a Park!

Many years ago an idea was conceived that would transform a currently unused area into a local Wildlife Park and educational facility. Although the park project is still in the planning stages you can follow its progress as it goes from the initial beginning stages into a completed community project. Although a name has not been chosen for the park project I will use the name "The Park Project" for the purpose of this example.

The natural setting of this area is a typical natural Tennessee scene.

The Area

The area of the Park site is currently part of TVA near the bridge at the TVA dam. The area is blessed with fine vegetation and wildlife. Although plans are to keep much of the area in its natural condition to preserve the state of the environment some improvements will be completed in various stages to make the area more accessible and user friendly to those who wish to enjoy the outdoor setting that is so well known in East Tennessee.

Recreation Possibilities

Since the Park Site is located adjacent to the Nolichucky River this would present an opportunity to create areas of both educational enrichment and recreational enjoyment. The telephone book already lists this area as a place to "Bring your picnic and camera and wander among the wildlife inhabitants in their natural habitat". Although currently the area is not opened to the general public when the area is turned into a user friendly community park the benefits would increase greatly. The river is used to a limited degree by a small group of wildlife enthusiast who canoes along the banks of the Nolichucky River. Bike paths and picnic areas are planned for "The Park Project". Buildings for educational activities can be added to increase the value the area will provide to teachers, students, and others who want to know more about the area.

Other Park Nearby

Just a little ways up the Nolichucky River is Kinser Park. Many people have enjoyed Kinser Park and will relish in the fact that all these additional benefits are so close by. Future plans include having a small bridge constructed that would accommodate pedestrians who wish to bike or walk to the park from Kinser Park. Hours have not been set as of yet but hours would most likely extend to the sunset during the summer season.

Opening Soon!

Although "The Park" still has a way to go before it is opened, we can still see that there are new and exciting options presenting themselves to us. As you may have seen already an area such as "The Park" will appeal to both young and old. Active visitors will enjoy the athletic activities while less active visitors would enjoy the scenic vistas. The park will be set up to appeal to both genders (male and female). When opened, The Park will be a favorite of both local residents and those from out of town who wish to escape from the fast paced work-a-day world of the city.

Currently a name for the park has not yet been chosen but possible names may include:
