Anatomy of a MECHWARRIOR battle
As played by Joel and Tom
Our first picture is of the setup. We like to try different setups, but the one we've been going for lately is the big wall where we can set our terain privately, I think it works out awesome. We use 2 risk boards and zig-zag them across the table, in this case we zaged it on an angle to make it interesting.
This is how the deployment worked out, sorry the pics aren't in very good focus, I tried. Joel is on the right, I'm on the left. I made the table cloth out of a piece of material from Wal-mart and stitched deployment zones on all 4 sides in discreet black thread. It's also larger than regulation along with using many many terain pieces, keeps it interesting. I have 3 hauberk infiltrators, he has 4 hauberks, a Di-Schmidt, and a damn Legionaire!
Here's how it looked after a few turns of movement, the pesants on the hill in front of Lady Lakewood became my first (and only) kill, one shot, 5 clicks, gone.
Here's where I tried to make a push, I think I took a bit of damage, but I eventually got the construction mech to get his ass in contact with his Sniper artillery. Oh, yeah, we also started using grey cotton balls to represent where artillery rounds fell. Also, note how Lakewood coerses her lancemate to boot it across the field as the hoverbikes hide behind them all.
Here he comes, make way!
Meanwhile, Mikos Wolf drops his load of Languinus StormHammers right into the path of his Hauberks, a failed maneuver when they only pounce on 1 guy and the rest run off.
Here I tried to spray his infantry with my anti-personel Balac v.t.o.l., twice that dice-rolling extravaganza failed. They ended up pushing through pretty good.
CRAP! Here comes backup, the buddy Joust.
Of course he has a trio of heavys waiting in the wings.
My opponent measures my demise as he moves his Legionaire ever closer
What a flippin' mess!!
This was about it when I failed to make the break away roll. Even when I only fail on a 1, I still can't make a break-away! They didn't get a chance to make a capture attempt before the time-up.
Now that Joust has found his nitch, he's coming to help in the slaughter of our favorite little Knight.
Well, here's the end of battle, game over, winner, Joel, by kills AND battlefield control. I killed a peasant, he toasted a JES III missile carrier, the 3 Hauberks, and did a lot of other dammage, he's good, damn good, kept me runnin' like a headless chicken.
Finally, here is a picture I snapped with the last of the roll of film, still not very focused, I'll have to get some sharper close-ups of the re-paints and modifications I've done. I think I've screwed with every figure I have, as soon as I get a box, they're getting cut, pinned, glued, inked, painted, melted, hell I'm all over it. If you look at the purifiers, you can see the pins that i put in them, I'm going to finish them off by painting and sculpting them to look like firey jump jets. The pins I also used on my Lakewood conversion, because I wanted something more real than the little plastic rail-lookin' things on the chest, and I wanted a color scheme that more reflected the art on the cover of Ghost War. Thanks for checking out our anatomy.
