| We are a group of friends from different backgrounds that need no excuse to have a party, and what better reason to throw a party than to celebrate sisterhood! Girl Power! Party & Perform! is a free party for the girls of all ages in the East Village. Here they will have the opportunity to meet others,perform and experience performance. The idea for Girl Power! Party & Perform! was born out of the sharing of our experiences of growing up and searching for our own identites in New York City. As our friendships grew, we realized a shared sense of responsibility to help foster the blooming self-confidence of the next generation of female leaders. We believe that self-respect is the foundation of a person's character and strength. As our young women grow and gain greater social and politcial power, they will confront an ever-rising societal emphasis on restrictive standards of "beauty" and physical appearance. We feel that young women can develop the self-respect required to deal with these types of pressures through building a sense of community with other women and also through experiencing the freedom of self-expression in its many forms. We seek to redefine female beauty as the unmistakable glow of a woman who sees herself as a magnificent, inherently complete human being ready to show the world who she is. We are dedicated to nurturing the talent and growth of our future leaders by encouraging and affirming their freedom of expression. We want to provide a female-positive environment where ideas, fears, struggles, dreams and laughter can not only be shared but embraced. We dream of a generation of women making their way in the world with an unshakable belief in their own worth. Girl Power! Party & Perform! is one way we can share this dream with the young women of our community. |
