Controversies About Evolutionary Theory

Science & Religion: A Match Made in Heaven

Controversies about evolutionary theory are debated by many people, not just biologists. Non-biological scientists, public and private school teachers, ministers and other religious officials, and lay people may all have something to say about whether evolution is a valid theory. The most visible controversy about evolutionary theory concerns Creationists, whose acceptance of the Bible as literal truth makes evolution impossible for them to reconcile.

The following links lead to more information about some of the attacks on evolutionary theory, including refutations of inaccurate claims against the theory.

Doug LaPointe
LaPointe wrote an article in which he treated what he perceived to be the "top evidences against evolution." This page contains factual refutations of his claims.
David Menton
Menton wrote an article on the perceived "flaws" in evolutionary theory which was published on the Web. This page contains factual refutations of his claims.
Jeff Harwell
Harwell, a professor of engineering at the University of Oklahoma, wrote and published online an answer to the question "Does Evolution Contradict the Bible?" In this article, he concludes that though evolution does not in fact contradict the Bible, it can't be true for logical reasons. This page is a letter responding to his "factual" allegations in a defense of evolutionary theory.
