Seventeen Magazine Scrapbook on Milo Ventimiglia:
Seventeen Magazine

Is this Gilmore guy really a badass? To find out, I spend a day on the set.

What's it like to be a guy on the fiercely female set of Gilmore Girls? I head to work with Milo Ventimiglia who plays resident troublemaker Jess, to find out. I just hope the cute star has better manners than his TV alter ego, who's been wreaking havoc in quiet Stars Hollow (petty theft and vandalism are among his hobbies) and has threatened to upset Rory's perfect relationship with Dean (Jared Padalecki). If Milo is anything like his abrasive character, this could be a long day.

When I arrive I spot Milo on a break between scenes, relaxing in the morning sun. It's only 10 A.M., but he's been at work for nearly four hours. The early wake-up call is enough to make anyone grumpy, but Milo is a perfect gentleman. After saying hello he ducks into a nearby building and returns with a bottle of water for me. So far so good. Maybe that tough-guy attitude is just great acting. In fact, Milo seems respectful of everyone on the set, especially costars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham. "The show is about Rory and Lorelai," says the 24-year-old actor. "I'm aware that it's the Gilmore Girls." It turns out that the show isn't the first time Milo has been surrounded by powerful women. "When I was seven, my two older sisters dressed me up as Madonna," he says, laughing at the memory. "They tied up my shirt and put a big bow in my hair. It was awful!"

Next up Milo offers to give me a tour of Stars Hollow's outdoor set. He takes me past Luke's Diner and the town square, until we end up on the Gilmore girs' front porch. Standing there, I ask if there's a romantic future for him and Rory. "I have no idea!" Milo says. "My mom thinks we should just be good friends." I disagree after hanging out with Milo all day ... I am happy to report that he's nothing like Jess.
