MaxSACs Start up screen

MaxSACs is a surgical logbook program running on the EPOC32 platform ie. Psion series 5, 5mx, REVO, or s7, Ericsson MC218, Nokia Communicator 9210. It was initially written for Maxillofacial Surgery and complies with the UK Specialist Advisory Committee guidelines for logbooks (hence Max S.A.C.). It is currently having a name change to sLOG as it is used by a wide range of surgical specialties.

It contains the entire OPCS procedure codes database and so can be used for any surgical although many specialties have their own logbook codes and preferences. At present codes and setups are available for:

Maxillofacial Surgery (UK) and soon compatible for Australasia as well (as I need these both for myself)

Paediatric Surgery (UK) and Australasia (RAC)

Thoracic Surgery (UK)

General Surgery (NL) in dutch

Plastic Surgery (UK)

Worked on as we speak….

Neurological Surgery (UK)

Orthopaedic Surgery (UK) - concurrently with AO codes

Otolaryngology (ENT) (UK)

Urology (UK)

Plastics (RAC)

Entering patient data is straight forward. Reports can be quickly produced on your machine. The below overall report shows the total procedures in the logbook and breaks them down by the trainees involvement and the catagory of the procedure.

For example only one preprosthetic procedure has been performed and the trainee performed the operation with the supervising Surgeon Assisting Scrubbed. The report can be modified to any degree say to report on the last 3 months work under a certain consultant at a specified hospital. Any of the buttons on the screen work - by pressing the P button for procedure 'Performed' the complexity of all the procedures performed will be shown on the right half of the screen, the below screenshot shows the complexity of all procedures performed. If the MOS button is pressed the next screenshot will be produced.

Procedures are reported in more detail (in this case Minor Oral Surgery). Printed reports are in a similar format. Once again the report can be modified for example just show the major procedures or only the subheadings for procedures ie. A consolidated report.

Useful search criteria can be constructed quickly. The below search will find all reduced mandibular angle fractures performed by the trainee with the surgeon assisting.
