About the artist:
I am an emerging South African fine/figurative artist. I studied Fine art at Port Elizabeth Technicon and majored in Stained glass.I graduated with distinction in 1998. I also received a good grounding in drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting and art history.
My use of subject matter ranges from fantasy through erotic to abstract works. During the year following my graduation, I experimented extensively with hot glass techniques such as slumping and fusing; also incorporated many organic materials, creating unusual recycled type of works like “Collapsed Beer bottle becomes an ashtray".
I now do unique and evocative figurative paintings/mixed media/chalk pastel works. Some of these are exhibited for sale locally .I try to use my mediums in such a way as to create a unique mood and tone for each figure or portrait; incorporating my love of sensual nature, Africa and the nude human figure and psyche in the use of earthy colors, sensitive lines and intuitive textures. The word Afro-Saxon could be used to describe my artistic heritage and influence, but my real inspiration comes from deep inside my own tangled sub-consious.
I am also currently working on my first children’s book ‘Keetha the Penguin’ and hope to do more book illustration
I have done more free-lance illustration work recently, and am experimenting with cartoon strips.
