Editor -- Extensive experience in editing copy in all stages, from initial proposal through to finished product, lightly or thoroughly as needed. (Major copyediting was required for Dushon Gersi's Explorer (Tarcher), as English was the author's third language.) During one year as Harlan Ellison's editor-in-residence, delivered five new books to publishers. As magazine editor, screened and bought fiction and non-fiction, saw copy through all necessary rewrites, fitted copy to layout, and wrote blurbs, titles, captions, etc. Layout and pasteup, both manual and computer.

Oversaw website (www.api4animals.org) from startup date. Worked through five redesigns. Modified JavaScript and HTML elements. Maintained and updated site as necessary, using FrontPage until new host server provided proprietary program. Current website is at more than 1100 pages.

Write and format for DTP Action Alerts calling for member volunteers to take action. Screen organizational correspondence for clarity of language and correct grammar. Edit press releases. Proofread all copy. Laid out brochures using Pagemaker.

This non-newsstand magazine of the Animal Protection Institute is full-color 32-page quarterly, containing no outside advertising. Contents included up to three feature articles per issue, book reviews, short features, news of API activities both in-house and in the field, and "Thumbs Up/Down" encouraging readers to take personal action.

Chair editorial meetings, assign articles to staff and follow through to ensure completion of the assignment in a timely manner. Select, edit, and write feature articles; when necessary, thoroughly rewrite material. Supply all ancillary copy, including captions, titles, cover blurbs, assorted filler. Edit copy to fit layout. Write all correspondence, including replies to Letters to the Editor and requests for permission to reprint.
