"Fire Fright Haunted House"
Arcadia, Indiana Saturday October 25th, 2003

Sammy Terry made two public appearances during October 2003. He signed autographs at both events and photos, t-shirts and posters were for sale--you can get any of these through the official website at SammyTerry.com.

At The Haunted House in Arcadia halloween revelers got into the haunted house for free and had to pay $3.00 to get out (all proceeds went to Jackson Twp. Fire Prevention programs), and have a chance to see Sammy Terry. Over 700 fans lined up to meet "the Santa Claus of Halloween" (as one fan I overheard put it), some from as far away as Ohio. Mr. Carter was also presented an award by Scary Monsters Magazine and the Sammy Terry Movie Club, and later had a group photo taken with the members of the Jackson Twp Fire Department and a few fans:

Fountain Square, Indianapolis, IN Halloween Night, Friday 10-31-03

At the Halloween event Sammy signed autographs at the Fountain Square diner from 7-8 PM, then was the guest of honor for a retro-halloween costume party, which included a Sammy Terry look-alike contest. A great time was had by all at both events! You can get the publicity photo that Sammy autographed for me (the "cigarette holder photo") through SammyTerry.com--JDM 11-14-03.

Yikes! Who's this
with Sammy?

SCREEN CAPTURES

All of these images have been made from video captured off the airwaves (and cablewaves) by Sammy Terry fans. Video captures are courtesy Thomas Rude'. Blurriness in some of the images is due to the condition of the video and the broadcast quality at the time of taping.

This set of ten images is from an episode of the 1980's eponymous Sammy Terry program. The movie shown that evening was the Hammer version of The Mummy. This video is from the collection of Thomas Rude'.

The next 19 images are from a number of clips of the show in the collection of the webmaster, circa 1988. Note in images 10, 11, and 12 Sammy's sometime assistant Ghoulsby. Image 9 is a shot of the "Ghost Girl" who was part of the opening and closing credits in this incarnation of the program (for a sound byte of this opening see the Sammy Speaks! section).

NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS AND OTHER MEMOROBILIA

The first of the two images below is from an old scrapbook your friendly webmaster unearthed one evening recently--Sammy appearing at a festival at an eastside Indianapolis gradeschool. I believe this pic appeared in The Indy East newspaper in 1976. Just above it in my scrapbook is a clipping noting the end of the original "Nightmare Theater" (click here to view a scan of this clipping). The other new picture is from Brett S. Morris, a 26 year old Sammy fan originally from Connersville, IN. Brett related to me: "My pops and I'd stay up late and watch Sammy every durn Friday when I was a wee lad... and at one point, I just *had* to have the George Wall Walker Mail-In Thingee [tm]. So I got it. And this past week when I went home to Connersville, IN (I live in Bloomington, IN now), I found the promo pic that came w/ the mail-inoffer. . .I think the year they offered that was 83, even though someone on yr message board sez they thought it was 84. It coulda been 84, but 83 just sounds more right to me." Click on the thumbnail below for the full sized image. Thanks Brett!--JDM 3/26/99.

The following is a scan of the WTTV 50th Anniversary poster, which features Sammy Terry prominently in the bottom left corner. Also pictured are Cowboy Bob, Janie, and many other favorite personalities from Channel 4's local programming heydays (as always, click the image for a larger version).

1999 Indiana State Fair Images

Sammy Terry and classic WTTV 4 children's program hosts Cowboy Bob and Janie, and present WB4 Kid's Club hostess Commander KC made a live appearance on the WFMS Free Stage at the Indiana State Fair on Sunday, August 15th. They also appeared in the Fair Parade that evening.--JDM.

JOE BUSAM'S SAMMY PAINTING AND MEMOROBILIA

The following email from long time Sammy fan Joe Busam should serve to introduce these images contributed by him in 2002:

"Hi Jim,

It's been a while since I sent you my reminicences about Sammy Terry and Nightmare Theater. We recently moved and as a result, I unearthed a number of items I wanted to share with you and fans of Sammy. In 1965, I wrote to Ch. 4 and received an 8x10 of Sammy as well as a letter from the current station manager. Also, I found a second oil painting I did in 1967 of Sammy and his then sidekick Crefur. As you'll recall, the original painting I did of Sammy in 1966 became part of the set for several years. This second painting was taken from a now lost photo I received from the station as part of the Sammy Terry fan club packet. It's the only source I have of what Crefur looked like. No one else seems to recall his presence on the show. Thanks again for helping to keep Sammy alive."

Below are the images Joe sent me along with his descriptions--thanks Joe for your great contributions to the site!--JDM.

Joe's Sammy Photo
(This 8x10 of Sammy was sent to me by the station in 1965. At the time the program was entitled Nightmare Theatre and was on Saturday's at 10pm.)

Joe's Painting of Sammy and Crefur
(Oil painting of Sammy and Crefur that I did in 1967. The painting was based on a picture I got as part of the Official Sammy Terry Fan Club (originally printed on green paper sized to fit in your wallet). Sadly the original picture is now lost so the painting is the only record I have of it and the only image of Crefur I've seen. George the Spider was with him even back then.)

Photo Envelope
(This is the original envelope that the photo came in. I'm amazed I still have it.)

Joe's 1965 letter from WTTV
[This is the letter that came with the photo. Wonder if Bob Carter knows anything about Noah Miller (I Imagine he does--and apparently Mr. Miller hosted his own movie show for a time--see the "Other Hoosier Hosts etc." section of this site--JDM.)]

COFFEE WITH CARTER 1961

Doing a little flea marketing the other day I found a couple of copies of the t.v. schedule from the Indianapolis Times (a long defunct Indianapolis daily) for the early '60's. When I opened one of them up I was amazed to find the following article about one Bob Carter, dated November 1961. The third image included is a sample of one the daily schedules from that week, showing Carter's program in the mornings.--JDM
