SITE CLOSING!
Geocities, which hosts this site, is closing in October. I started this Salvage 1 site 10 years ago...not sure if I am going to find another home for it or not. Keep checking around after October. It may pop up somewhere! In the meantime, keep looking up! - George

Number 1 Question...

To answer the most common question...In short, the show has not been released on video by the studio and as far as I know, there are no plans to do so.

Once upon a time, a junkman had a dream...
"I'm gonna build a spaceship, go to the moon, salvage all the junk that's up there, bring it back and sell it."
So he put together a team. An ex-astronaut...a fuel expert...they built a rocketship...
And they went to the moon. Who knows what they'll do next?

Salvage 1 was a short-lived television series but I have never forgotten it. You may remember it as "that show where a guy built a spaceship out of junk and flew to the moon". Well, it began as a two-hour television movie aired in January, 1979 starring Andy Griffith as Harry Broderick, the proprieter of Jettison Scrap and Salvage Company.
He was a junkman with an extraordinary dream...to salvage the junk left on the moon by the Apollo moon expeditions in the 1960's and 70's. The subsequent series followed the adventures of Harry and his crew as they undertook various salvage and business ventures. I was a young teenager at the time Salvage 1 aired. Looking back, the show's charm lay in its positive outlook on life (that everyday people can do extraordinary things) and in the characters.
Although Salvage 1 was sometimes embarrassingly bad (i.e."Confederate Gold"), there were almost always some wonderful character moments. I enjoyed the imaginative fun of the show; evident in the whimsical theme music, the thrown-together design of the spaceship Vulture and the portrayal of Harry Broderick
by Andy Griffith, who is one of my sentimental favorite actors. The original two hour pilot/ movie, "Salvage" is undoubtedly the best of all the episodes. After all, as it has been noted, where can you go after you've been to the moon? That may be why the show only lasted a little over half a season. However, I remember it fondly to this day. Please browse the site! There are lots of treasures to be found here. I hope you enjoy this look back at Salvage 1.
