Hey Look! It's a Blog!

(Or, a month in the life of...)

I started creating my first blog as my "back-to-school" project for 2002. This is where you can keep up with the latest chapter of the story that is my life. I can't promise that it'll be exciting, but I'll try to keep it current. If I get behind, then send me an email!

Blogs for the Year 2004

JUNE 2004
This month, my sister Bobbi got married. She had a sunset-on-the-water ceremony in Vancouver, then came home for a backyard reception at a friend's place. I actually met them at the airport with a homemade placard that had a cute little bride-and-groom picture... except that I was at the wrong gate. Oops!

The weather for the reception was gorgeous - actually, it was warmer than expected (it had been a mild summer) and I got sunburnt. But it was worth it. We had lots of fun, playing frisbee with the dogs, swimming in the pool, and chasing the runaway tent that blew up and over the house (yes, you read it right - over the HOUSE), across the road and onto a neighbour's car. Tents really do make good kites. :)

AUGUST 2004
Mike's still in Maryland for work. It's my Grandfather's 75th birthday this year, and I gave him some Diana Krall CD's, hoping he might like to try a new artist (cuz he loves jazz). But apparently he already knew about her, and loves her music. He didn't already have these albums, though. :)

Wedding preparation stuff: Battled with our wedding invitations. The picture that we scanned was 5x5 and we wanted to print 5x7, which wouldn't work no matter what the photo place tried. Just because of the aspect ratio. Until I played around with the image using Photoshop-type software (I increased the size of the "canvas").

Battled with RSVP cards. No printer shop in town was willing to print them for me on the cardstock that we bought at Staples. Because of the size of the cards, our printer kept giving us a "paper jam" error message, even though nothing was really jammed. The solution: I scotch-taped two cards together, so that they were the approximate size of a piece of paper. Then the printer was happy.

My family got together on a Saturday evening, and we all spent several hours addressing and stuffing envelopes with our invitations, RSVP cards, maps and other inserts. Warning for future brides - this always takes longer than you think it will. Start early in the day.

August 18th - we got our first wedding RSVP!!! This is getting exciting!
We also attended the marriage preparation course this month, which was better than I expected. And we came home with some useful tools. :)

Had dinner out a few times, with friends and with my sister Bobbi. Mostly Asian food - Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese. Went to see "Alien Versus Predator" in the theatre on the opening weekend, with my sister Bobbi and my friends Maja and Marie. Which I loved, even though I'd never seen a Predator movie. I've seen all of the Alien movies. We shared popcorn dipped in spicy cheese. Not bad. Went to a Jays game at the SkyDome with some friends from work, and had a great time screaming and cheering. I also watched Murder On The Orient Express, an adaptation of one of my favourite Christie novels. Definitely worth it.
