Triskaidekaphobes beware!  2007 marks the thirteenth anniversary of the premiere event of the golf season, the Natural Light Memorial Day Weekend Partridge Hill Country Club Invitational Golf Classic.  Come, brave souls, if ye dare to laugh in the face of superstition.  Thirteen guests at the Last Supper.  Friday the thirteenth.  Thirteen witches in a coven.  Thirteen different Sanjaya hairstyles.  Thirteen lost golf balls per nine holes at the PHCC.  Be afraid.  Be very afraid.
After a brief deluge, the 2006 tournament was kicked off in fine fashion with the first “shotgun start” in the history of the event.  (And no, I’m not referring to the can of Natural Light that Mr. Pepka shotgunned before tee-off.)  Good weather, good turnout, and a good deal quicker round of golf than in years past.  And not that your host really gives a rat’s ass about his guests’ comfort, but I suppose it was probably nice not to be the last group into the clubhouse and be forced to scavenge from a stale bag of salt-free potato chips and a crispy hot dog sitting on the grill for two hours (well, except for the 2.5 seconds it had fallen onto the deck).
For the second year in a row, the coveted blue jacket was awarded to a PHCC rookie.  When asked how he was able to do such an amazing job of navigating the undulating greens, 2006 PHCC champion Sean Waterhouse explained that he had spent many years honing his hand wedge in preparation for the difficult course conditions.
And now, on to the other pre-eminent prevaricators from the 2006 tournament:
Closest to the pin:
Dan Campbell, 15 inches
Closest to the crooked line:
Stacey Maillet, 8 inches
Congratulations upon your selection as a participant in this prestigious tournament.  This year's festivities will be held on Saturday, May 26th.  Shotgun start tee-off time for all groups will be at high noon.  Please make plans to arrive one-half hour early, for purposes of registration, inebriation, and cooler preparation.  Please bring a pitching wedge and putter if available.  Helmets are always a good idea too.  A winner’s reception / cookout will follow the competition.  Assorted toxic concoctions will be strategically distributed throughout the course, as well as beverage-laden coolers.  Feel free to supplement the provisions with your own potent potable of choice.  (Cans preferred.)
As always, no golf prowess is required for participation.  Friends and family are of course welcome to attend.  Children are also welcome at the cookout, as there will be plenty of Jell-O shots to go around.  Please RSVP as to your attendance plans by May 21st, either by phone to the clubhouse (508-248-9867) or by e-mail to the PHCC Board of Directors (gpowers4@hotmail.com).
