Ricksen
talks of his excitement of SPL Challenge 1/5/00
New Rangers
signing Fernando Ricksen is looking forward to
the challenge of Scottish football - and will be
hoping he settles into the Ibrox set-up as quick
as he has settled into life in the West of
Scotland.
The Dutchman is
also confident that countryman Bert Konterman
will soon be joining him in Glasgow.
"We wanted
to come over here and have a look at things, and
sort some stuff out," he told
Skypsorts.comTV. "We went to have a look at
a house on the first day, it was beautiful, and
we bought it there and then. So that's was all of
my signing fee gone, but it's really great!"
The former AZ
Alkmaar man, who signed for £3.5 million, was at
Fir Park for the last league game of the season
and is under no illusion about life for the
champions in the SPL.
"The team
did not play well that day, but the other clubs
go 100 miles per hour when they are playing
Rangers, as if it was the last game of their
lives. It is unbelievable. But I know now what to
expect when we defend our title next
season," he said.
Feyenoord's Bert
Konterman is still exepcted to become the fifth
Dutchman on the Ibrox roster, and Ricksen is
certainly confident that he will be joining him.
"Bert could
come here, but I had better not say too much, as
he shares the same agent as me. He is one of the
best defenders in Holland, and he will make a big
impact in Scotland, that's for sure," the
23-year-old concluded.
Meanwhile, Tony
Vidmar has been spared a punishing summer
schedule with the Australian national side.
"We have
three matches with Paraguay and then they have a
trip to Tahiti for the Confederations Cup against
the likes of Samoa. But Frank is a very
understanding coach, I don't think he would let
every player do this, but he has been great with
me," he said.
