GENERAL  JOSEPH  MARTIN  BICENTENNIAL  CELEBRATION  2008
                                       will be held in Martinsville.
                2008 marks the 200th anniversary of the death of General Joseph.
                                His descendants will meet in Martinsville, the town
                                 named after him, during the month of June, 2008.

TENTATIVE  SCHEDULE  OF  ACTIVITIES

Friday, June 27, 2008      
Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville.  The museum is easy to find, look for the signs on Highway 220.   The address is 21 Starling Avenue.

There will be a festival in downtown Martinsville this evening.  Everyone is invited to attend on their own.

Saturday, June 28, 2008  
10:00 a.m. at the Old Courthouse for a welcome and dedication by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). 
Tours of the Martin Family Graveyard on the Belmonte Plantation (home of General Joseph) will be available.
Genealogy help for the beginner and the seasoned researcher in the Old  Courthouse.
Viewing of items collected from Martin family history by Desmond Kednrick.

6:00 p.m. "Meet and Greet" at the Jack Dalton Park in Collinsville (near Martinsville).   
Auction of an oil painting of General Joseph.  Funds received will be placed in the Martin Cemetery Fund.  This fund is used to pay for clean-up and restoration of cemeteries associated with the Martin Family

Michal Martin Farmer published the Martin Family Quarterly from May 15, 1975 thru February, 1987.  There were 12 years with 4 issues each year.  The 48 issues have now been indexed together.  Michal has graciously allowed me to provide you information from those issues.  If you visit the web page and discover you would like information on one of the articles - just email me and I will try to provide you the information.  The index is arranged so you can identify the Volume, Issue, and Page Number. Recently it was brought to my attention that the Family History Society of Martin, located in England, with membership groups in many other countries including the United States, has a wonderful website at www.fhsofmartin.org.uk.  The Society publishes a quarterly journal called DELICHON URBICA (The House Martin).  To join the Society and receive the quarterly journal you can visit the website or contact Jack Coursey, the temporary representative for membership in the United States of America at jpcoursey2003@yahoo.com.  Annual cost to join the Society is $15.00.

The 2003 Martin Family Reunion is now history.  It was held near Mansfield Arkansas on Saturday, June 21, 2003.  Marion and Treva Martin Mathis hosted the reunion and everyone had a great time. 
The 2002 Martin Family Reunion is now history.  On Friday, June 14, 2002, members of the Martin Family met at the Superintendent's Office of the Indianola Public Schools, Indianola, OK, to exchange photos, genealogy sheets, documents and stories.  It was a delightful morning and many new items were placed in the archives.  T

On Saturday, June 15, 2002, members of the Martin Family met in the cafeteria of the Indianola Public Schools in Indianola, OK for a traditional reunion.
