Future Prospects:

Work on hepatitis B is broken down into two categories: Current Treatment and Clinical Trials of New Antiviral drugs. Current treatment involves the use of interferon alpha in addition to various nuceloside base analogues. In the clinical Trial section, studies have been done with new antiviral agents such as lamivudine, flamividine and a variety of other base analogues. The promising news is that many of these drugs have provided relief to patients but that is short lived. Mutations and resistant acquired by the Hepatitis B virus has rendered them to use only in terminally ill cases. However, combination drug therapy such as that used in the treatment of AIDS, is currently be developed and should show more optomistic results.
