Chandrani
Welcome to Chandrani
Chandrani is the abbreviated form of the ' Centre for Human and Women Rights and Allied Issues '. As the name suggests, the main objective of it is to collect information on human rights, women and allied issues that encompasses various aspects of life. It aims to build up a steady reservoir of collected information, a reference library of books and other materials and to cater the same.
Situated in the vicinity of Jadavpur University, it aspires to be modest help not only to the students and academicians but also to activists and local people, whose day to day struggle is the motivating force of its sustenance.
Being a non-profit making organisation and a collective of some like-minded people, it solely depends on a meagre fund constituted of small donation from the members and well-wishers. Like a birth-mark Chandrani bears an agonozing scar in its heart from the begining.
In March, 1984 a girl in her teens was brutally murdered by a miscreant. The name of the ill-fated girl was Chandrani. It was a blatant violation of her right to live a life and a dream shattered to her parents.
Chandrani is the only consolation left to the people of this organisation and her parents to commemorate her.
