Back To Nowhere

Some of you may have forgotten this classic but I won't ever. I loved this band so much. This was their debut and my personal favourite, but the second "Who Care's Wins" and the third, the very poppy "Sebastopol Road" are also special to me.

Anyway, back to Tranzophobia and it's melodic punky tunes. Wiz wrote excellent lyrics (and still does) but the tunes always got you first. Their gigz were singalong pogo fests, we all had a great time. You could drink yourself silly and sweat it out in the pit, anyone remember those Megas, Senseless Things and Snuff shows at the Fulham Greyhound. I swear fat people left that sauna like venue looking in need of a good meal.

Although there's not a weak song on Tranzophobia, there were some stand-out trax. "Start", "Paper Tiger", live favourite "Severe Attack Of The Truth" and "21 Again", which cried out to be a single but wasn't. Not one track was taken from the album for a single. This band has such a great do the right thing attitude, the same attitude and belief as bands such as Fugazi and they stood firm. It might not have helped them in the long term, but you have to respect them.

No matter how great MC4 were on record, it was in the live context that they really excelled. Their performances were full of energy and passion, they were always a touch quicker live. We saw them so many times that we knew the albums off by heart by the time they were released.

The ass end of the eighties were a special time. I had dreams then, anything seemed possible. It was one of the happiest periods of my life. I had so much energy and enthusiasm and the freedom of youth. I met some incredible people with whom I'm still friends now.

Mega City Four never said they could change the World, they just said that it stinks.
