Badge Territorial Governor's Page
In order for a club to be SASS® affiliated, club members must elect a SASS® life member as Territorial Governor for a term of one calendar year.  Eight Bits was once again elected for the 2002 year.  The Territorial Governor is the interface between the club and SASS®.  He communicates the wishes of the club to SASS®, and any rule/policy changes from SASS® to the club.  This page is the medium for communicating information from SASS®.

The following topics and resolutions were approved by the Territorial Governors at the 2001 Summit:

Topic Details
49er Category A new shooter category has been added for shooters age 49-59.
Saying a line It has been suggested that any lines be said before the timer goes off thereby making the stage consistent for all shooters.
Spotters It has been suggested that spotters wear a colored bandana or carry a baton to distinguish the official spotters.
Dropped round Clarification:  If a staged round is dropped back into the prop area it is NOT considered a dropped round.
Miss defined If a shooter shoots targets out of sequence, is that considered a miss, a procedural, or both?  This was clarified as follows:
"Rifle, pistol, and shotgun targets must be engaged with the appropriate type of firearm.  A "miss" is the failure to hit the engaged target using the appropriate type of firearm."
Therefore, rifle targets must be shot with a rifle, pistol targets shot with a pistol, and shotgun targets shot with a shotgun.  Hits are hits, and misses are misses.  If any of the targets are engaged in the wrong sequence, a single procedural penalty is awarded.
Single-barrel shotgun Single-barrel shotguns with no ejector are now SASS® legal.
Gunfighter holstering half-empty pistols A shooter may shoot Gunfighter only if the stage calls for 10 consecutive pistol shots.
Gunfighter changing leads A Gunfighter may change leads so long as no more than two sequential rounds are fired from the same pistol.

The following topics require your input so Eight Bits can report back to SASS®.

Gunfighter holstering half-empty pistols This will be an agenda item for this year's summit.  If a stage calls for two pistols that are interrupted by a rifle or shotgun, should a shooter shooting Gunfighter be allowed to holster his half-empty pistols with hammers down on spent cartridges?
Frontier cartridge category to duelist only Should the Frontier Cartridge category be duelist only?  It is currently duelist or traditional.
Frontiersman category to allow Gunfighter style Should the Frontiersman category allow Gunfighter style?
Empty hull left in '97 action Sometimes the Winchester '97 and copies will not fully eject the empty hull.  If an empty hull is left in the '97 action, should this NOT be considered a safety violation?
