Knowledge Gained

I have learned so much since I began taking this class in August of this year (2000).  I have gained a new appreciation for writing and its different styles.  I have also learned to refine my writing to indicate a more formal prose.  Above all, I have learned to appreciate other's writings.  I do not believe that anyone's style is good or bad, just different from mine.  I have gained a new found passion for writing.

Probably the most important thing that I have learned is the importance of trying to accurately judge the research that I conduct.  Sometimes things that I have researched turn out to be incorrect, even if the source is credible.  Whenever possible, I will try to prove the accuracy of any article or book that I plan to cite in one of my own writings, and I would suggest anyone else to do the same.  Nothing could be more embarrassing than having your own credibility diminished because of an unreliable source.

I have also discovered writing is much more difficult than I remember. I have not written anything significant since high school which was 7 years ago.  In fact, I would hesitate to call any writing I did then significant.  In reality, this is probably the first class that I have tried to write anything of value.  This class has been a very worthwhile crash course in composition.  I know that I will use what I have learned here for the rest of my professional and personal life.  I would highly recommend a composition class of this caliber to anyone who enjoys writing or who writes in a professional capacity.
