The Men's Garden Club of Libertyville/Mundelein was founded March 2, 1949 as a local chapter of the Gardeners of America.  The name was recently changed to The Gardeners of Central Lake County and is now an affiliate of the Gardeners of America whose national membership is currently over 4800.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 7:30pm at the Evangelical Free Church on the SE corner of Garfield Ave and Austin Ave. in Libertyville.  After a brief business meeting, knowledgeable speakers present information on various aspects of gardening.  Presentations are often of a multimedia/  hands-on nature.  Members are encouraged to bring entries for a plant competition display.  Entries are discussed and winners announced at the end of the meeting.  Members and guests are encouraged to remain afterwards for refreshments and conversation.

The monthly newsletter, the Secateur, further informs members and keeps them posted on current club activities.  Additionally, members receive a bimonthly national magazine, "The American Gardener".
