GOOD POINTS
For £180
you get a lot for you money in terms of features, the Dolby decoder
gives good surround effect, although with stereo it can sound a bit
flat, the pictures seem very good for the price, and give detailed
and crisp images. Its a good thing that the Bush allows you to play
US discs as well as UK.
BAD POINTS
It
won't replace your CD player, because the CD replay is not special,
but it wasn't designed to play CD all the time, so its a minor.
Sometimes it won't play some CD-R's, and the operation of the CD
drawer is a bit sluggish and noisy. There are limits to what you can
connect as there aren't many sockets.
OVERALL
At the
price it works quite well, the pictures are decent, although the
sound is a bit flat in stereo, it sounds fine in Surround. Bush lets
you play US discs too, making it worth it if you want a bargain DVD
player. BUT a rival lies further down the page. Menu

GOOD POINTS
For £300
you get this the Hitachi DV-P250, the player has DTS and enough
sockets, the player works excellently in both picture and features,
the sound is just as good with amazing surround sound depth and
smoothness with the DTS. The player doesn't have Dolby decoder
but thats all it is well featured with a RGB SCART output, a S-Video
output & also plays CD-R's too.
BAD POINTS
The
only thing against the player is the lack of a Dolby Decoder.
OVERALL
You'd
have a hard time finding another player with the picture quality,
features and CD sound, that this DVD player has. The way it work is
great the CD replay is just as good as any CD player for under £200.
It will mix in with any home cinema equipment. Menu

GOOD POINTS
As we
move into the more pricier players there are bound to be
differences, the list is longer, in features for this Pioneer. The
player has a decoder, DTS, plenty of sockets to connect it to big
equipment, such as a receiver.
BAD POINTS
For the
price there's no reason why you shouldn't buy this DVD player.
OVERALL
With
excellent pictures, sound, and features, this DVD player could
dominate a home cinema, it will easily mix in with all sorts of
equipment. The best in this this test. Menu @ Top

GOOD POINTS:
The
smallest DVD player in this test, the unit is well built and robust,
the main advantage of this player over the others is the size, which
means you could place it on top of a VCR or virtually anywhere. This
unit has a headphone socket too like the Bush, but at £400 you
would expect better picture and sound, than that of the Bush. The
pictures are brilliant and dynamic, there're always excellent and
with the sound they could easily beat any cinema, matched with the
right equipment it give perfect results. With a small jog wheel and
well placed buttons and controls its pretty easy to use. The DTS and
Dolby 5.1 sound is excellent, and well distributed through the room,
the CD replay is probably the best in this group test. In CD replay
you can see CD text with compatible CDs. The slow motion replay is
perfect, the SmoothScan and SlowScan modes work well.
BAD POINTS:
The
only missing mode is a Zoom mode, but you can live without it.
OVERALL:
Excellent player, and flexible to replace a CD
player, and the sound from Dolby 5.1 and DTS are excellent.

GOOD POINTS
The
second sub £200 in this test, the player has DTS instead of a Dolby
decoder, it also has enough sockets. The pictures from this player
are brilliant, and easily beat Bushes pictures, but what it has that
the Bush doesn't have is superb sound from CD's, it also has CD-R
replay and a multi region hack
BAD POINTS
Not
much to complain about. May seem a little soft, in build quality.
OVERALL
At this
price its a bargain, excellent pictures sound, and is also well
featured. SECOND prize. Menu @ Top
