PROJECT RELATED EXPERIENCE – FORESTRY 1:20,000 Forest Vegetation Inventory Northwest Territories This contract required that 4,600 km2 of land in the Wrigley/Camsell Bend be fully interpreted to Version 2.0 of the NWT Forest Vegetation Inventory Standards. Northern labour and partnerships were created to ensure the project realized a transfer of skills to the community of Fort Smith. Soft-copy Forest Vegetation Inventory Saskatchewan This project is a soft-copy inventory of 1980 1:60:000-satellite vegetation inventory for the forest fringe areas of Saskatchewan. The deliverables include 200 map sheets (10 km X 10 km each) of various forest densities. 1:20,000 Forest Vegetation Inventory Saskatchewan This project entailed the interpretation and forest cover mapping of over 310 km2 of land in Northwest Saskatchewan. This mapping was spread over 31 sample areas that will be used to extrapolate adjacent land cover. 1:20,000 Forest Vegetation Inventory Northwest Territories This contract required that 3,800 km2 of land in the South Slave Valley be fully interpreted to Version 2.0 of the NWT Forest Vegetation Inventory Standards. Northern labour and partnerships were created to ensure the project realized a transfer of skills to the community of Fort Smith. PROJECT RELATED EXPERIENCE – RASTER TO VECTOR NorthWest Communities Inventory Saskatchewan This project entailed the interpretation and forest cover mapping of over 310 km2 of land in Northwest Saskatchewan. This mapping was spread over 31 sample areas that will be used to extrapolate adjacent land cover. Maps were created using a hard-copy process and vectorized, cleaned and georeferenced for classification. PROJECT RELATED EXPERIENCE – GIS TRAINING AND TECHOLOGY TRANSFER Fort Resolution Environmental Working Committee Geographical Information Systems Training Northwest Territories This project involved the comprehensive training of two First Nation resource technicians. The project catered to the specific needs of the Fort Resolution Environmental Working Committee. The program focused on GIS and the applied usage and understanding of the program. Trainees learned specifics regarding the formation and maintenance of database design as well as detailed training on the use of ArcView GIS. The training was carried out in Fort Resolution in May 2002. Treaty Eight Geographical Information Systems Assistance Northwest Territories Provided assistance and created GIS final products of the data organization within the Treaty Eight Akaitcho Territory mapping structure. This project provided the opportunity for the recent trainees and local workers to gain project-related experience in GIS. Treaty Eight Geographical Information Systems Mapping and Data Compilation Northwest Territories This project involved the incorporation of the trainees from the GIS training undertaken in Fort Resolution. The purpose was to compile and organize all data relating to the environmental activities within the Akaitcho Territory. Updated GIS maps of the territory were created to help the First Nation group with presentation materials for land claim activities. This project also provided the opportunity to apply the skills of the recent trainees to help them gain more project-related experience.
