A Young Girl

A young girl, not more than seventeen
The techno backbeat echoing in her ears
Hollow, hollow as her heart inside
In the passenger seat as daddy drives down
Down the long highway, she starts singing
Just so he won't notice the tears
She can't understand why it hurts so much
Worse than when she'd take a knife
And watch her blood run down
Her mind screams at her, telling lies
But she believes them

I can see this girl, so young, yet so hurt
She cries silently in the night
No one she can turn to anymore
All her friends were her worst enemies
So she keeps it all inside, deep down
She keeps the voice in her head buried
But in the night, when she can't escape
It destroys her as well as any gun
I can't help her, and it kills me
Because she won't listen to my words
To what I can see is the truth
She has no more faith in herself
Or anyone else
