A willing exile, Sira has distanced herself from the plight
of her species in order to save her love. But even she knows
their peace is an illusion, and when the forces from
Morgan's past and her future collide, Sira is driven from
safety into a struggle to save not only the Clan but the
very alien world of the Drapsk, a world that holds the
secret of the M'hir.

REVIEWS

My review:

Julie's third published science fiction novel, and sequel to
A Thousand Words For Stranger (her first), Ties Of Power takes up right
where Thousand left off.

Sira di Sarc, of the secretive Clan, and Jason Morgan, a human telepath,
now possessing Sira's Power of Choice, make their return as main characters.
Morgan's new role is that of student, learning to defend himself from
mental attack using his newly aquired Power, while Sira plays both teacher
and student...teacher to Morgan, instructing and testing his control
over his Power, and student who must learn more about tolerance of the
universe around her, rather than the typical disdain of the Clan.

With the introduction of a new race, the Drapsk, Julie once again takes
us on a voyage of discovery and thrill, where all is most certainly not
as it seems, and where it is nearly impossible to guess what happens next.
Julie writes using subtle foreshadowing, dropping tidbits of information that
both satisfy our curiosity, and leave us begging for more.

Again, Julie has done what few others can, and brings her characters
to life through intimate detail, and depth of character, which is truly
what makes her writing so powerful.

And, unlike most other sequels, this one does not assume you already know
all you need of the first novel, or of the characters. Ties can be read as
a novel on its own, but is made better if you have read Thousand. And where
most writer's do not seem to deem it necessary to expand upon their characters in
a sequel, Julie chooses to ignore this and not only expands upon their
personalities, but on their past as well. This is a ride no-one should miss,
especially after reading A Thousand Words For Stranger.

Once again, Julie has given us a novel full of life, which is difficult to
put down for any length of time. I most definitely recommend this book to
anyone, be they a fan of science fiction, or not. Who knows, those non-fans
may suffer a joyous change of heart after reading such wonderful writing!!!
