I am a Brandane - I was born and brought up on the Isle of Bute and my first attempts at landscape photos were my favourite views around the island captured on a Brownie 127, to take with me when I left Bute - as many of us had to  - to study and then find a job.
Some years later I was shown how to do black and white processing and from then on I was hooked. I am a member of
Inverclyde Camera Club, who are always encouraging and supportive and I have taken hundreds, if not thousands of photos on Bute since then, using slide, colour and monochrome film. The landscape of hills, lochs, sea, and woods and the abundance of birds, wild flowers and animals never fails to delight me. There is a variety not found in the more northerly islands and the ever-changing light means there are always more pictures to be seen.
Bute is only a half hour's ferry journey from the mainland, yet it has a character all of its own and most visitors return again and again.
photos from my album - and yes, they were taken with a Brownie 127

What's the best way to see the countryside? By horse,of course! And only a Highland pony will stand still enough to enable you to take photos like the one below, from aboard. It's a great way to see over hedges.
