| Great American Scientist Believed
in the 'Designer'
Description in the 3/27/00 CDT of scientists endeavoring to use a collider to re-create the first moments of the universe(the Big Bang) creates in me the desire to continue banging away at such foolish study. My beliefs are aligned with Werhner von Braun, known as "Father of the American Space Program" and director of NASA. Braun wrote in 1974, "One cannot be exposed to the law and order of the universe without concluding that there must be design and purpose behind it all...to be forced to believe only one conclusion--that everything in the universe happened by chance--would violate the very objectivity of science itself." Braun was deeply interested in protons, neutrons, and electrons, but he continually stated, "An outlook through this peephole at the vast mysteries of the universe should only confirm our belief in the certainty of its Creator." Braun asked, "They challenge science to prove the existence of God. But must we really light a candle to see the sun?...They say they cannot visualize a Designer. Well, can a physicist visualize an electron?..What strange rationale makes some physicists accept the inconceivable electron as real while refusing to accept reality of a Designer on the ground that they cannot conceive Him?" All the experimentation of their $600 million collider will be unable to re-create God's salvation "given us in Christ Jesus before the world began"(2 Timothy 1:9.) How refreshing that one of history's most outstanding scientists understood this!
