The Index...
Hi! I'm Rachael, and this is my webpage! Impressive, ain't it?... Well, okay, it's not, but I'm doing this quickly. It'll get better, eventually... We hope...

I'm half-way throug my fifth year at University of South Florida! Check it out
here. Unfortunately, I haven't graduated yet... but I'm working on it...

Drop me a line, if you would, and comment on any of the work around here. I always like to hear what people think of it.
Yeah, this site will probably not be messed with all that much any time soon.

I have a store I'm working on at Cafepress.com:
Those of you who know me, know that art is a passion of mine. It's more than just a hobby, it is a way of life. I found these in the Corbis.com collection of the Yahoo!PageBuilder clipart.

On the left is my favorite sculpture of any I've seen in person, "Cupid and Psyche" or "Psyché reanimée par le baiser de l'Amour" by Antonio Canova. I like the french title much better, don't you? When I saw it at the Louvre, I though, "Any moment, she will breathe and he'll carry her away." It is spectacular! And this photo does not come close to capturing the magic that this piece possesses.

To the right, is an example of Monsieur Edgar Degas' work, "Ballet Rehearsal." I think perhaps he is my favorite impressionist. It is amazing that he could work so well when he was loosing his sight. The Musee D'Orsay will be my first stop when
Until I find a better place for things... all this stuff is going here... I might eventually give the art it's own page, but until then - here. And that's good enough I think.
I go back to Paris.

I admire painters and sculptures very much. I can not paint or draw to save my life. I do not enjoy it at all, but do occassionally bow to the muses' demands. I do sculpt in various mediums. My favorite is clay, my second favorite is plaster. I'll never be famous for it though. My real artistic passion is photography. You can see some of
my work on the
Photography pages. It is not recent work. Since beginning college,
I have not had much time for it and it is too expensive to have someone else do the
processing. However, we are planning to build a darkroom, so someday I should be
creating as much as I want to again. My favorite photographers are Adams,
Mapplethorpe, and Abbott. And I prefer black and white over color for pure
aestetics. I think that the color tends to distract from the flow of the form and that
often times color photographers are more likely to get sloppy with their compositions
because of that. Black and white, in my opinion, keeps a photographer honest
because flaws in lighting, composition, and technical skills are more obvious in black
and white images.
