How I Learned to do Origami

By:Dale Gaarenstroom June 1996

Hi, I am Dale. I will tell you about origami and how I learned to make it. Origami is Japanese. It means paper folding. You can make birds, whales, squirrels, lions, people, and way more! I learned it from my friend who lives in Japan. Her name is Samantha Fukashima and she is Japanese. She also lives in the USA sometimes. She came over to visit, and she brought origami paper. Origami paper can be just a plain, square piece of paper, or it cam also be a colored piece of paper, just as long as it is square, though it can be different shapes and sizes, it is usually just like I said, a square piece of paper. Now back to what I was saying. She knew how to do lots of origami, but all I could do was one thing, but that was O.K. because I taught her how to fold it, and she taught different origami to my family. She made a star box, even though I did not understand it at the time, I just followed along. Here is some origami I learned (down). From then on, I studied books and learned how to do it well, and after about two years of studying, I feel I am good at origami now. THE END

Why I Like Lego!

By:Dale Gaarenstroom June 1996

Why do I like Lego? I like Lego because they let you imagine and make what your mind wants to any time. I also like Lego because they let you problem solve. You can make almost any thing you want to, from frogs to phones, from people to aliens from the planet...Um...I had it a minute ago...Hmmmm...Puto...Pluo...Pluto! Yeah! How back to what I was saying. No matter if you have twenty, or if you had nine-million pieces! (I was exaggerating about nine-million.) (*Ha-Ha-Ha*). You can build any thing. They can come in sets of twenty pieces, to a thousand pieces. They come in different categories like Space Police, to Aquazone. They even have Lego men, octopi, dolphins, sharks, and a few more! So I encourage you to get Lego at K-Mart, Target, Wal*Mart, and other stores that sell toys. THE END

Scoring a Goal in Soccer

By:Dale Gaarenstroom June 1996

Scoring a goal in soccer is a moment to celebrate, a moment to be happy, a moment in history. If you are able to score a goal, you are talented or lucky because it is very hard to score a goal in soccer. To score a goal in soccer, you must kick a soccer ball into a net without the ball touching any part of your arms. To make it more difficult for you to score a goal, they put in a goalie who is able to use his hands only with in the eight-teen yard line. To score a goal against a short goalkeeper, shoot it high, but if the goalkeeper is tall, shoot it to a low corner, fast and hard. It is not a goal if you shoot it and the goalkeeper saves it on the line. If the defending team uses his or her hand(s) and is not a goalie, it will count, but if the attacking team uses his or her hand(s) before the ball is put in the net, the goal is not given to the attacking team and the defending team gets a free kick to try to get it out of their zone to another player on his or her team. So if you are able to score, just think, you are talented or just plain lucky. THE END

My Fear of Spiders

by Dale Gaarenstroom June 1996

Hi, I am Dale. I will tell you what my fear is. My fear is spiders. I find them interesting, it is just that I don't like them when they're loose. I don't know when my fear of spiders started. I'm guessing about last year in July. I first noticed a spider when I was playing the computer. From then to about this winter, I saw those kind of spider. They were black spiders with brown legs and on every joint on the legs was a yellow band. They lived in a funnel-shaped web and were about the size of 5 quarters melted together with burning flames and then put into a circle-shaped mold that was about one and a half inches wide and one inch tall. I thought they might be trap door spiders or wolf spiders. I still haven't found out what kind of spider they were. Now, I don't even like plain house spiders. I hope to get over my fear and get on with my life. THE END
