Gareth lost to Will in the grand final of Pop Idol. 8.7 million people rang in to vote for the contestants, with Will beating Gareth by only 500,000 votes.
Gareth has been signed up by 19 Management and Simon Cowell, the track for his debut single is yet to be decided. It looks likely that Unchained Melody and Flying Without Wings will feature on the format, whether this will be as A-sides or B-sides is yet to be decided. More news on the single release will be announced later this week.
