Gerard Dunphy received the Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1989 and the Master of Engineering degree in 1999, both from Memorial University, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He has worked in the field of telecommunications and networking and has held positions in engineering and project management before accepting his current position as Interim Director, Information Systems and Telecommunications at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. He has been an active volunteer with IEEE since becoming a student member in 1986, having held positions at the student branch, chapter, section, regional and transnational levels. He is married to Edie, a special education teacher, and has one child, Sarah, age four.

Statement – My vision for Region 7 is an organization that is relevant to, and provides value for, its members. My extensive professional background in the leadership of large, diverse teams has given me the experience required to establish a vision for Region 7, develop strategies to implement that vision, and guide the Region in achieving that vision. My leadership roles within IEEE, at the Section, Region, and transnational levels, have given me the experience to understand the background, relationships, and culture of Region 7, and the changing needs of its stakeholders.

I believe IEEE can thrive when its leadership demonstrates unwavering commitment to establishing, communicating and implementing a clear strategy for the organization. If elected Director of Region 7, my primary goal is to pursue increased value for members by focusing on the following areas:

• Improved access to professional development resources for members;

• Fostering opportunities for member networking;

• Ensuring the Region's financial assets are effectively managed;

• Ensuring members have input into the Region's activities;

• Reporting regularly to members on progress toward reaching the Region's goals.
