SUPERSTRUT
LINKS

Superstrut Suspension was available as an option on AE101 FX GTs, Levins and Truenos. Superstrut is standard equipment on AE111 BZ-Rs and was an option on many other models. Cars fitted with Superstrut also have twin piston front calipers (see next page). FX GTs fitted with Superstrut also have small factory fitted wheel arch extensions and ABS.

The above picture shows all the associated parts of the AE101 Superstrut suspension. A similar system is also fitted to ST205 GT-4 Celicas / Currens and a few other performance Toyotas.

The system means that during cornering the strut does not turn. The reasoning behind this is to remove the associated camber and castor changes that occur with a standard macpherson strut when cornering. It is quite a complex system and can be costly to maintain but makes for an impressive handling car.

Thank you to Toyota NZ for the diagrams.
