HOT NEWS!!!

(11/29/01) Fury Classic Teams Assigned Field Marshal Duties for Inaugural Norcross Cup

All NSA teams participating in the inaugural Norcross Cup are being required to provide tournament support. Our Fury Classic teams - Gold and Blue - have been assigned to provide Field Marshals for play at Pinckneyville Park.

This is fairly painless duty, and the best part is... you get to wear a snappy navy blue "NSA Staff" t-shirt (I know many of you are disappointed that NSA no longer uses the bright orange bibs from the Gwinnett county jail) Your main duty is to lend some official NSA presence at each field, collect score cards for the NSA staffers to take back to headquarters, answer guests' questions, and alert NSA officials (via cellphone) if there are any problems with injuries or hooligans (both of which are extremely rare).

Everyone must pitch in. To even out the load, it will work best if each household on the team can provide a field marshal for TWO GAMES... that's only a little over two hours of duty for the entire weekend. The weather will be nice, the soccer good... that's not hardship duty.

Please follow the link to the field marshal schedule to see what times are still available... then email me with your choices... we will sign you up. Thanks for your help.

Fury Gold continued its winning ways, going 2 and 1 in Greensboro NC U18 Play on September 22 and 23. Fury lost a close, hard fought match, 3-2, to Region 3 U18 Runner-Up Greenville FC. Gold got on the winning track with a 1-0 blanking of St. Giles U18, and ended the weekend of play with a wild flurry of late 2nd half goals to cruise past James Island Battery 5-2.

(9/24/01) Blue Back On Track

(9/17/01) Blue Kicks Off Its Fall Campaign
Blue started its Fall '01 season on Saturday, September 8, at Pinckneyville Park, with a solid 5-2 win over its big divisional rival from the Fall '00 season... Henry County Thunder. Tallying goals for Blue were Chad Chambers (2), Matt Culberson, Andrew Larwood, and Joseph Henry.

Blue traveled to August a week later on Sunday, September 16, to play the undefeated and '01 Atlanta Cup C Flight champs... Columbia County Patriots. (6/21/01) Bruce Murray's Quick Score Record Finally Surpassed
Among his many accomplishments as a member of the U.S. National team, Bruce Murray held the long-time record for the fastest-scored goal in a World Cup qualifier, when he racked up a score in the 3rd minute against Guatemala back in 1989. That record was finally surpassed in the U.S.'s June 20 qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago, when Ante Razov scored in the 2nd minute, just 74 seconds in the match. Bruce's old record got a nice mention in an ESPN write-up about the game, which the U.S. won, 2-0. With a 4-0-1 record (13 points), the U.S. leads the CONCACAF qualifying, and is very close to clinching a spot in next year's World Cup field.

Bruce was a top scorer in his years (1985-1993) with the U.S. National team. Even eight years after his retirement, Bruce's 21 career goals are still third on the National team's all-time scoring list, trailing only Eric Wynalda (34) and Joe-Max Moore (22), who just passed Bruce earlier this year. Bruce is still well in front of the fourth leading scorers, Cobi Jones and Brian McBride, who are tied with 14. For other all-time National team records, check out the U.S. Soccer Federation website.
