Tips for ppl with learning disabilities going to college or university

-Update your psycho educational assessment; it’ll help you understand the way you learn. Call the assessment people; it may cost 900 to 2000 dollars

-Your disability, how to explain, how it affects you, what they need to accommodate you. There aren’t remedial courses given in university or college and modifications of the course aren’t possible.

-Be careful about the courses you choose in terms of skills; choose something that best fits your talents.


-Some schools may offer workshops, which include stress, writing, test taking, and note taking. Individual sessions are also available.


-Take responsibility for your damn self! Get a day planer, mark important dates, talk to professors about your problems. No one will have a clue about your problems unless you tell them, self- advocate. Make sure you register at the special needs centre with the proper documentation on hand. Help yourself so others can be able to help you.

-There are some computer programs that might help you, such as Kurzweil, Dragon Naturally Speaking (voice training required), Text Help, WordQ, and Inspirations Other methods that could help you would be note taking, tape recording, have people take notes for you (don’t get it twisted, they don’t help lazy asses. Like it says above, they help those who help themselves).

-If you’re broke, poor, or just not making enough cash to go to college or university, apply for OSAP. Besides the possibility for a loan, you may get a bursary up 2000 dollars that you don’t have to payback.
