Joe Bataan

Chicano Joe Bataan recorded first for Uptite in 1974, having a small dancefloor sucess with "Ordinary guy". A backbone of the fledgling Salsoul label in 1974, Joe is then credited with releasing the first ever record on the Salsoul label - his 7" single version of the early disco instrumental "The Bottle", originally by Gil Scott-Heron. (The Bottle was also released on 12", however it is on the RCA label. It was issued on the Canadian Salsoul label, though). Joe continued with the Salsoul label, although he also wrote for disco group LaSo. Beginning to pioneer rap in the late 1970's, Joe released "Rap-o-clap-o" and "Rap-o-dance-o" - two early classic disco styled rap tracks. Listen also for "Sadie (she smokes)" from the same album and the fantastic early Eighties disco groove "Mestizo".
