Hamilton Bohannon

Bohannon's characteristic earthy African beat led him well into the 1980's. "South African Man" is the original earthy funk track and makes you wanna dance with its driving wah-wah guitar. "Disco stomp" is rhythmically less compulsive but still very good - and this is the track that made the charts. Later singles include the excellent "Dance your ass off" - with a good B-side, "Stop and go"; and "Truck stop". These early funky Bohannon disco tracks were released on the Dakar label (a sub-label of Brunswick).

A move to Mercury in 1977 ensured further disco success with instrumental classic groove "Andrea" (Bohannon's wife's name), the b-side of uptempo "Bohannon disco symphony"; and the unforgettable "Let's start the dance", remixed and re-released many times in the 1980's.

In the UK, Bohannon's earlier tracks were released on the Brunswick label.
