Dennis Coffey

Big on the Sussex & Westbound labels; wrote disco tracks with Mike Theodore in late 1970's.

Dennis first made an impact on the very early funk and disco scene in 1972 with "Scorpio", a great instrumental which made the US charts as a 7". Follow-up hit "Aquarius" was also well received.

"Getting it on '75" is not Coffey at his best but is a nice record to have; from 1975 "Finger lickin' good" is much better. (This was pressed as a very long version onto 7" single "For Disco DJ's Only!" on Westbound records - before Westbound distribution moved from 20th Century to Atlantic.

Dennis teamed up with New York disco remixer Tom Moulton in 1977 for his greatest LP "Back home", which includes "Funk connection", "Free spirit", "Boogie magic" and "Wings of fire" - great basslines.

"Gimme that funk" is a more disco oriented track, with the characteristic bouncy bassline of the disco era. This is from the LP "Sweet taste of sin", which has perhaps the best cover of any album ever (above)! This LP also contains "Love encounter" and the ridiculous "Calling planet earth".
