History

As a result of a bill that allowed induced abortion to the Colombian Congress in 1975 and as a means to give a human and Christian answer to the problem of abortion, whether legalized or not, and as an initiative of Astrid Tamayo de Bayer, the Fundación Derecho a Nacer (Right to be Born Foundation), an institution that  since then helps  women distressed due to an unwanted pregnancy, was created.

For 25 years, the Foundation has supported these women in the birth of over 15 thousand babies, providing them the necessary assistance to bring them to life.

The types of assistance  provided to women include training in different areas and activities to prepare new mothers to find jobs after childbirth. They have also been given the possibility to receive education through different courses, helping them to start a new life. Many of them have received the holy sacraments for themselves and for their children. Several parents have understood the situation and have helped their daughters. Many women have survived despair and even suicide.

The institution has a job exchange in place which finds employment for the beneficiaries to help them earn their livelihood and earn enough to cover their own expenses and those of their babies.

Foster parents and homes for some children who for different circumstances may not stay with their natural mothers have been procured through the adoption houses established, thus allowing them emotional, moral and economic stability for their development. However, the Foundation is not an adoption house nor does it offer these services.
