South Dakota

If you've ever been to South Dakota you know its a long way across.  The eastern 200 miles are a 100 mile long corn field followed by a 100 mile long wheat field.  We camped the first night along the Missouri River.  The whitecaps you can vaguely see on the river were caused by the 40 mph "summer breeze".  Our neighbors couldn't get their tent up it was blowing so hard.

The Sturgis motorcycle rally was closing down as we were arriving.  I counted 119,432 motorcycles on the other side of the road headed east.  Most of them were Harley's without mufflers.  The border people said that there were over 600,000 people at Sturgis, pop. 2,232.  We were sorta glad to miss it.  I guess they camp everywhere, have motorcycle races, and cruise the Black Hills.

Anyway, we hit the Badlands, Black Hills, and Mt. Rushmore.  I put them on separate pages so they don't all take 8 minutes to load.
