What do you think of Pierzynski signing with the White Sox?
No harm to the Twins, we have Mauer.
It might give the Sox the spunk they need to win.
They will hate him to the point he will do horrible.
Watch out, bad for the Twins.

Radke shuts down Indians as Gardenhire is ejected in 9-0 win

From the Seats, May 06, 2005

MINNEAPOLIS — Brad Radke shut down the Cleveland Indians Thursday afternoon at the Metrodome only allowing 3 hits and striking out 8. It was exactly what the Twins needed after losing the series and trying to avoid the sweep against C.C. Sabathia.

The two dulled until Jason Bartlett homered to left, the beginning of the end for Sabathia. As he would get Lew Ford to hit a number back to him before giving up three strait hits to load the bases.

The Twins at that time figured out how to get out of the bases loaded funk, where they were 2-25 and drew a walk, followed by a base  hit and anther walk. After showing he was unable to throw strikes his day was done and Sabathia was set up to lose to the team he hates the most.

Earlier in the game, in the second Mike Redmond had been hit by a 98 mph fast ball from Sabathia, he danced around before walking down to first with a very sore elbow.

In the 7th with Jason Davis pitching and Rivas on first a wild pitch moves Rivas over to second. Instead of pitching to Stewart and trying to get him out he nails him with a pitch. Stewart does a weak knees dance and gets some help from the trainer to walk halfway down the line. It than occurs to Stewart that he should be upset at Davis for this and starts yelling at him.

The umps meet in at the mound and come to the decision to issue warnings to both sides. Ted Barrett, the home plate ump warned both teams in a weak passive way, pointing his finger at both sides in the warning. Gardenhire exploded at this warning and threw his hat out to the base line. It took one step out of the dugout for Barrett to eject him, but Gardenhire would not go easily. He ran out and got his moneys worth.

One can understand Gardenhires anger about the situation, two Twins have been hit by pitches and now if Radke goes just a hair to far inside he will be tossed, along with Gardenhire. It really takes a lot away from the game, a lot away from letting the players deal with things on the field.

So bad umpiring call, right? Maybe not.

What?

In the post game show on WCCO and the Twins radio network Rick Reed, the crew chief  talked with John Gordon and Dan Gladden to clear up a few things about what happened.

After Stewart was hit and was walking down to third base he chose to have some words with Jason Davis, and because of that the umps needed to issue a warning, something they have to do on orders from the commissioners office.

Reed had said that baseball ran itself for 100 years but fans didn't like the delay of benches clearing and such, so warnings are issued to help stop that.

After Stewart scored there were more words between the two and the benches did clear. So in this case it created a problem before it prevented it.

But no blame to the umpire crew, as they are doing their job. But no kudos to home plate ump Ted Barrett, as the way he went about issuing the warning and how he argued back with Gardenhire did not help anything in the game.

On a side note, Torii Hunter missed a ball, a line drive to center that would have been hard to make the catch on, but he allowed the ball by and the runner to make it to third base. It was the first hit for Cleveland, breaking up the perfect game for Radke. The second brain fart this year in the field, he is batting .237, no room for errors in the field.
