Game 2 of 3: Twins 8 @ Mariners 4 FINAL

Game Time: 3:01 Attendance: 28, 373
WP: Santana (1-0); LP: Meche (0-1)

PROPS TO:

*Johan Santana A bad first inning giving up 4 runs, all earned got the Twins off to a bad start. But he came back and allowed one hit after that first inning and struck out 6. Retiring the final 9 batters he faced in a row and the last 14 of 15. Santana settled down and gave his team a chance despite being in the hole early.

*Adrian Beltre Had a two run double and scored in the first inning.

*Ritchie Sexson An RBI double in the first and scored a run. Made it 4-0 at that time.

*Gil Meche Even though he gets stuck with the loss he pitched very good. He left in the 5th with one out and two runners on, no reason his bullpen shouldnt be able to get him out of that.

*Lew Ford Got things started in the 5th for the Twins with a hit and scored the Twins first run. Before this the Twins couldnt get anything going because if they had a runner on there were 1 or 2 outs.

*Jacque Jones 2 run home run in the 5th along with an RBI singles in the 7th.

*Twins offense in the 5th inning Everyone had at least one hit and everyone but Rivas scored a run.

*Shigetoshi Hasegawa Pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and a run. The key thing was that he stopped the bleeding in the 5th and came in to pitch two innings after that, the run coming late in his time of relief.

*Twins bullpen Picked up where Johan left off in the 5th. Pitching 4 shutout innings.

FLOPS TO:

*Twins offense before the 5th inning Not sure who shoed up for the first 4 innings, Twins didnt work at bats and didnt try for singles. Fly ball outs and lazy ground balls makes it pretty easy to not get any lead off runners on base. Two hits prior to the 5th.

*Matt Thornton Couldnt get the Mariners and Meche out of the 5th inning. Only getting 1 out with 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER and a home run.

* Mike Hargrove Made those pitching changes just a little too late. I dont think he helped to keep the damage to a minimum.
