Life after abandonment.  Every year, thousands of miles of railroad are being abandoned.  Althouth we do not advocate abandonment of these now defunct sections of railways, we encourage their utilization via transition to all-purpose recrational trails, or Linear parks.  There are over 30 trails covering hundreds of miles of Illinois country side, in and around many cities, that provide a safe outlet for the outdoors-type individual that enjoys walking, hiking, biking, running, inline skating, or horseback riding.  Most trails are even wheelchair accessible.
Multitudes of people across the great state of Illinois contunue to enjoy the many miles of the once rails, that are now community trails.  We can make it happen here in East- Cental Illinois!

Wheather you enjoy walking, hiking, biking, running, observing wildlife, or just need an excuse to get outdoors, a linear park has a lot to offer for people who enjoy recreation and nature activities.

Benefits of the Friends of the New Hope Trail projects include such items as:
Auto-free, slightly rolling grades that provide an altenative method for commuting to and from work, schools, shoppong and the local library.
Provide higher proerty values for those area surrounding trails.
Educational resources for schools, scouting groups and other community agencies.
An increase in economic support to area businesses.
Preserve a lineage of history.
Natural wildlife habitats.
