My meaningful Christmas
*new
The Christmas with the family is so precious and meaningful. Being together with my family for once in a blue moon, is the happiest experience. We just been together at least once in every semester. Getting to see each other's faces with my older sister and my mom, makes me happy and crazy. I loved the way we celebrated Christmas because it's not the typical celebration that other did. Going to mass together, being part of the choir, and eat simple yet delicious dinner. It's nice to talk about problems, funny things, serious talks, and even jokes. We decided mountain climbing after Christmas at Mt. Musuan. It is a very high volcano actually. It took us an hour to get at the top. Anyway after working so hard to the top, a reward we found there. The beautiful view of the sky and earth. It's once in a lifetime. I was about grade 3 when I last climb that volcano with my family. The second time was exciting and fulfilling. It brought me past memories of where I live before and beautiful and painful experiences I have. The sun was up and the fog was thick, I mean really thick. I can't even see the foot of the volcano. Enough for that now. It was amazing to see old friends and classmates in my town. Some could barely remember my face yet they knew my name. I like some people in my town coz they these attitude that is very energetic. I still love my home town coz it's so clean and silent. Of course no students roaming around because it's x'mas break. Let me give you a little description about my hometown. I live inside the university. That is Central Mindanao University. Our appartment was at the tip part of the premises. It looks like UP Los Banos. Very nice!. My mom was a teacher, that's why. I think I just have to shut up now!. bye...enjoy
Website update delay!!!
hello my dear readers, fans, or whatever...I'm sorry for not updating my website for now. I was in a terrible mood due to my final exams. I still have final defense on our projects. BMI RENTAL SYSTEM. Database implemented in java. We got only 4 days to prepare for our documentation and final program to run. I'm very much frustrated now. Anyway, I'm still working for my latest website. It has run-time errors and bugs!!. I already launched it about 1 week ago. You know what about the CS final exam?, it sucks!!! I hate it because almost all of us have no answer on the last items. Shannon-fano and huffman coding!!! yaaayks! The final defense is the last hope of all. My quizzes are unreliable. Someday I'm gonna focus to my webdesigns . You may call me freak about my concepts of my website.I'm honest about my feelings when i created it. It's totally freaky!!! It's nice to be a multy webmaster! A little hard work and sweat will do and also analysis. I hope you will try. See you someday !
Caning, Starvation, Sexual Abuse, Death: The horrors brought home by Filipino Deportees from Sabah Malaysia
*new
The Philippines is grappling with an influx of its citizens fleeing neighboring Malaysia's harsh laws against illegals. Thousands of sun-drenched Filipinos, some risking their lives packed like sardines in small leaky boats, have been arriving daily in recent weeks in the southern Philippines from the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah on Borneo Island. They have been dubbed here as "boat people" a term used for the boatloads of southern vietnamese fleeing the new communist regime in Hanoi in the late 1970's. In the mad rush out of Sabah through illegal fishing boats, at least eight Filipino babies have reportedly died during their perlious jorney across the porous martime border with Malaysia. Malaysia introduced strict laws against illegals on August 1, with a madatory six months in jail and up to six strokes of the cane for those convicted. Officials say the "back-door entry" of Filipino returnees is stretching the limited resources of local authorities of Zamboanga City, and the Tawi-tawi Island chain. Some 60,000 Filipino illegals from Malaysia had reportedly entered Zamboanga in recent weeks. It is estimated that up to half a million Filipinos live in Sabah, some of them refugees of a Muslim separitist rebellion in the southern Philippines in the 1970's . They began returning home in hordes from Sabah since February.
Some 500 Filipinos, including 154 suffering from various illness, arrived in Bongao, Tawi-tawi, from Sandakan aboard the Philippine Coast Guard's BRP San Juan Tuesday morning Capt. Damian Carlos, Coast Guard district officer for Western Mindanao, said some of the children were among the deportees sick with diarrhea, malnutrition and upper respiratory disease. Upon the boat's arrival, eight children and an old woman were rushed ot the hospital. The boat's manifest showed the 81 passengers were children. Most of the deportees were originally from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte and Basilan. Then separiates were from Tawi-tawi.
Some 1, 525 Filipinos arrived in the southern Philippnes monday after being deported from Malaysia, which has been cracking down on illegal migrants, the navy said. The Filipinos, many of them sickly women and children, were ferries aboard of Tawi-tawi near the common sea border with Malaysia, said Commodore Ernesto de Leon, naval forces chief in the South. "Some of them are sick and most of the children and women are suffering from respiratory tract infection",. de Leon said. Since February about 64,000 Filipinos have left Malaysia's Sabah state and an estimated 4,000 Filipinos are still waiting to be deported. A total of more than 300,000 illegal workers, mainly from Indonesia, went home under a fourth month amnesty ahead of the introduction of new laws on August 1, under which they faced a mandatory six months in jail and up to six strokes of the cane.
MINDANAO COAL-FIRED POWER PlANT by:Ma. Angeles DanoIt has been a struggle in fighting against the impending coal-fired power plant here in Misamis Oriental. Although it will bring new job opportunities and help address the power shortage in the country, we are also faced with its more morbid destructive environment effects that are hazardous to human and other living things' lives. Can we not find alternative ways that will not entail sacrificing our environment? Coal is the dirtiest fuel to be used in power factories and electric plants. It polluted whole cities and countryside during the Industrial Revolution. So that when huge quantities of oil were discovered, coal lost its appeal as a fuel source. Calaca Power Plant which is using coal had been found out by the evironmental group Greenpeace as emitting waste in streams, loaded with mercury, a very potent toxin (Why are we poisoning our own people? PDL, September 4, '01). At present, we have the Sual Power Plant that contributed disastrous "asb storms" that caused respiratory disease, skin rashes, eye irritation to residents of the villages of Pangacasan, where the plant is located, and nearby Kawayan and Capantolan (Sual Power Plant Boon or Bane?PDI, Aug 14, '01). Anothere update, a coal-fired power plant in Barangay Cagsiay I, Mauban, Quezon and also opposing the current project, had already bounded its operator, Quezon Power (Philippines) Ltd., Co. "After a comprehensive laboratory test, we found out that the mercury at the plant was at an alarming level of toxicity" Red Constantino, energy campaingner of Greenpeace-Southeast Asia, said "It is much higher compared to the lab test resutlt of asb samples taken from the periphery of the Napocor coal-fired plant in Calaca (Batangas), "he added. The test was conducted at the Greenpeace Research Laboratories in the University of Exeter of the UK (coal-fired plant meets Greenpeace challenge, PDI Aug. 21, '02). It's a challenge to respond for the sake of our future generations. Are we just going to wail like what happened wiht other power plants? Pray fervently that the people in authority oike those in Congress will be enlightened to to something before it will be too late. Advocate and educate our co-students for some may not have known it yet...
CREATION OF YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Social demographics would agree in the preposition that the Philippines is a young nation. Based on a 2001 study of a private think-tank NFO Trend (as commissioned by the Jestuits of the Philippines) on the Filipino youth, a great number of the Philippine populace are within the age bracket of 12-35. Assuming that the characteristics expected from individuals at their early life stage still hold true to this number of Filipinos, it would then be safe to conclude that the Philippines has a significantly rich supply of prospective resources. Such potential resources can very well contribute to the most wanted countrywide development if they are, in actual fact, fully directed and maximized. The idealism, impartial and the critical perspective of the youth, coupled with the same enthusiasm, energy and passion are but essential to the making of a picture of the Philippine society where true progress and genuine freedom and justice are at hand. The government on its part, as the primary agency that should promote the general welfare of the people, has a somber role in setting up agenda that should advance and hone the well being of its youth citizens. The present scenario, however, does not speak much of effectual programs for this youth development process. While there are some programs that are theoritically making sense- most of them do not really penetrate the core of the young population, not even the majority. The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Program, for instance , is purposely good but to a large extent limited only ot several. There is a need to provide venues for the youth where their potentialities are not left idle and inoperative but instead taken the most out involve to socio-civic affairs, a a program wherein even the ordinary FIlippino youth can be a contributory to build a will nation. The creatio of a Youth Volunteer Program in all local government units should be able to assure the carrying out of this intention. A Youth Volunteer Program has to be created in local government units (Barangay, Municipal/City, Provinial) across the country. The organized volunteer group should be a critical mass that either reacts or initiates action to issues that concerns the Environment, Education, Issu Advocacy, Sports and Socialization, Survival and Security, Governance, etc. Membership of which should be open to all Filipino citizens aging 12-35 years old, regardless of race, religion, color, political belief, or physical composure. A youth center where official functions of the youth group should be existent within the vicinity of each respective LGU. IT should be encouraged that the volunteer group decides independently for its own activities, however the NYC or any national agency concern for the youth should directly assume the responsibility of monitoring and coordinating this assembly. Although a volunteer group is advised to relate with the LGU for program coordination, its leadership setup must be such that is suiting for the practice of non-partinsanship. The Volunteer group must be a major vehicle for empowering the nation and catalyzing social change.
